During the American Civil War, the Eighty-Eighth Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio on June 26, 1862. This regiment was to serve for a period of three months.

During the American Civil War, the 88th Ohio Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio on June 26, 1862. This regiment was to serve for a period of three months. The regiment remained in service exactly three months, being mustered out of service on September 26, 1862 at Camp Chase in Columbus. For most of its service, the regiment served as guards at Camp Chase.
