Message from John Bell Hood Confirming He Had Assumed Command of the Department and Army of Tennessee (July 18, 1864)

On July 18, 1864, General John Bell Hood informed Confederate President Jefferson Davis that he had assumed command of the army of Tennessee.

ATLANTA, July 18, 1864.

General SAMUEL COOPER,
Adjutant and inspector General:

I have assumed command of the Army and Department of Tennessee.

J. B. HOOD.
