On February 24, 1864, Samuel Cooper, Adjutant and Inspector General of the Confederate Army informed General Braxton Bragg that he was appointed as a consultant to President Jefferson Davis to oversee the conduct of military operations in the armies of the Confederacy.

1864.
General Braxton Bragg is assigned to duty at the seat of government, and, under the direction of the President, is charged with the conduct of military operations in the armies of the Confederacy.
