Special Orders, No. 486 (AOP/CSA) (November 4, 1861)

On November 4, 1861, General Joseph E. Johnston issued Special Orders, No. 486, ordering Major General Thomas J. Jackson to take command of the Valley District of the Department of Northern Virginia.

SPECIAL ORDERS, No. 486.

HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC,
November 4, 1861.

In accordance with Special Orders, No. 18, Adjutant and Inspector General's Office, Richmond, Va., October 22, 1861, Maj. Gen. T. J. Jackson, Provisional Army Confederate States, will proceed to take command of the Valley District of the Department of Northern Virginia.
