On February 8, 1864, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No. 49, annexing Jeffersonville, Indiana to the Department of the Ohio.

War Department, Adjutant General's Office
Washington, February 8, 1864

Cairo, in the State of Illinois, is annexed to the Department of the Tennessee; and Jeffersonville, in the State of Indiana, is annexed to the Department of the Ohio.
