General Orders, No. 169 (U.S. War Department) (June 8, 1863)

On June 8, 1863, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No 169, organizing the 23rd Army Corps commanded by Major General George L. Hartsuff.

War Dep't, Adjutant General's Office,
Washington, June 8, 1863

The President directs that the troops in that part of Kentucky within the Department of the Ohio, not belonging to the Ninth Army Corps, be organized into the Twenty-third Army Corps, to be commanded by Major General G. L. Hartsuff.
