General Orders, No. 200 (U.S. War Department) (May 19, 1864)

On May 19, 1864, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No. 200 announcing that Major General David Hunter was replacing Major General Franz Sigel as commander of the Department of West Virginia.

WAR DEPT., ADJT., GENERAL'S OFFICE,.
Washington, May 19, 1864.

By direction of the President, Major General D. Hunter, U. S. Volunteers, is assigned to the command of the Department of West Virginia.
