Special Orders, No. 45 (CSA) (February 25, 1862)

On February 25, 1862 the Confederate War Department issued General Orders, No. 45 appointing Major General Kirby Smith to command the Department of East Tennessee.

SPECIAL ORDERS, Numbers 45.

ADJT. AND INSPECTOR GENERAL'S OFFICE,
Richmond, February 25, 1862.

XX. Major General E. K. Smith will proceed to Knoxville, and assume command of the troops in East Tennessee, reporting by letter to General A. S. Johnston, at Murfreesborough, Tenn.
