General Orders, No. 349 (U.S. War Department) (October 27, 1863)

On October 27, 1863, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No. 349, announcing that Major General William T. Sherman was appointed to the command of the Department and Army of the Tennessee, and that Major General John A. Logan was appointed to the command of the 15th Army Corps.

By Direction of the President, Major General William T. Sherman is appointed to the command of the Department and Army of the Tennessee, Headquarters in the field, and Major General John A. Logan to the command of the 15th Army Corps.
